Looking ahead to 2021 and the next steps for EMIC-GEM

Subtitle

With 2020 in the rear-view mirror it’s time to look ahead to 2021 and talk about all the things we have planned for this year. There are plenty of modules to develop, events to organise (online or offline) and courses to teach. And while we will still have to closely monitor the situation around COVID-19, maybe later in the year we will even be able to travel again and meet in person?

Currently we are working on the first three of eight modules on offsite and modular construction. The modules we are working on are based on the first three personas identified in our IO1 research report: Digital Design, Estimating & Commercial and Offsite Manufacturing.

Once the three modules are completed in April we will start looking at the next three modules on Logistics, Onsite Placement & Assembly and Site Management with the aim of these being finished towards the end of fall. We will also continue refining the first three modules by adding more interactive content and by creating different versions of our content suitable to a range of delivery options.

In parallel to the module development we are working on our website and are investigating innovative ways to deliver the course materials to lecturers and students around the EU. This includes guidance on how to adopt the course materials as well as developing ways for students to directly access materials online. A blended delivery approach has always been a key part of this project and we hope to deliver a great online experience to everyone who wants to learn about offsite and modular construction. To support this, we are working on other interactive ideas. Case studies from industry and 3D virtual reality visits to sites or factories are some of the things we are investigating and that we are hoping to be able to include once restrictions have been lifted around Europe and we can work on this.

While we can’t make plans for meetings at the moments it is our hope that later this year an in-person meeting will be possible and we also organise a mid-project conference either online, offline or in a blended way once we have our learning material ready to present! Be sure to keep visiting our website our interact with our social media channels to keep updated throughout the year and learn about our progress and upcoming events.
